We recently interviewed Penelope during one of the Steak Zombies Exquisite Corpse workshops which was taking place at the Book Club in Shoreditch, London. Penelope talks about her work, inspiration for her characters and creating the workshops where participants can let their creativity flow.
Interview Penelope Grabowski – Steak Zombies from W3haus on Vimeo.
About Steak Zombies (from their website):
The Steak Zombies tales and characters originate in Berlin in 2004. Since its creation, it has been using this whimsical world as a platform for artistic experimentation. The project blurs the line between Fashion, Performance and Design.
Looking at fashion from the arts point of view Steak Zombies research new formats of fashion and their work offer, rather food for thought than readymade fashion products. It is an experience and invites into the crafting process to inspire creativity.
Steak Zombies’ field of work embraces formats such as graphic characters, plush-dolls and accessories, stage-outfits and theatre costumes as well as character- based real-life-costumes. In a series of Live-Sewing and Clothes Customizing Performances in clubs and catwalk-happenings, they experiment with fashion and display its actual manufacturing process as a way of artistic expression and entertainment.

This is the doll we created!

For those who don’t know, Vimeo is a site that caters for the specialised video community. Similar to Youtube in functionality, but with a much more design and film-maker oriented design, it is the place to share your video creations online in high quality.
Tostitos Restaurant Style Salsa created this ad, a luxurious world of greens and Salsa ingredients, thoughtfully engaging this niche audience of film makers. And the result is viral worthy – click below to see:

Sometimes you are simply stuck and can’t think of anything interesting for your clients, other times you have some spare minutes to browse the web. Either way, the following list will help you get unstuck and get those neurons firing! We have compiled a small list of sites that always have something interesting to inspire us:

Quirky, interesting and cool collections of things from around the world. Not about trends, more historic random connections.

No matter if you like architecture, accessories, stuff for the home - you will find new cool stuff in The Cool Hunter UK site!

Ethonomics? We're not sure what that is, but they talk about it on this website! Innovation and the future of business can be found here.

PSFK is a New York City based trends research and innovation company that publishes a daily news site

A mixture of social bookmarking and magazine, the trend hunter tries to keep up with trends in real-time. They even have top trends of the day!

Each day a new site. Always something interesting. They do tend to focus on flash sites though - they have promised an HTML5 site in the upcoming weeks though!

Tired of the cool and pretty? Try the uncool hunters. They dig up all sorts of interesting finds from around the world.
Oops, better stop at 10, the list was starting to go downhill.
Please send any other inspiring websites to us (leave a comment) and we can publish them here as well. And we will be grateful – we do like our trends and inspirations!

The “Pizza Turnaround” is a bold marketing campaign by the pizza franchise Dominos. They are attempting to get attention by saying that clients don’t like their products and now they will be improving. Whether this approach will work or backfire remains to be seen. See below a video explaining (maybe it has already worked – we are posting about the here aren’t we!). It does remind us of CPB’s Whopper Freakout (Domino’s was also created by them).

Wario Land, from Nintendo pioneered the format, now – in an attempt at gathering public awareness on environmental issues – Acciona has come out with another creative Youtube ad Re_Acciona. Both ads take over the Youtube experience by taking the familiar interface and, well, basically destroying it. These types of ads have enjoyed success on Youtube and seem like a good match for the medium. See the ad here.
